Happiness = a fauxhemian hero + birthday cake

~This week has been a bit of a roller-coaster, but here are two things that have definitely helped put a smile on my face~

1. It wasn't just the bright lights of the big city that lured me to Manhattan - a greater sense of tolerance and acceptance also played a large role in my Southern sabbatical 6+ years ago.  And, speaking of which, I can't help but applaud a fellow Texan, Jacob Isom, for standing up in the face of evil.  Click *here* to read his story...and when you're finished, check out the follow-up article *here.*

I love this dude!  Oh ya, and turns out...he's a budding foodie, too.

2. For my 30th birthday party, my friend Shirley surprised me a with a homemade cake resembling The Lunch Belle's logo.  How much more thoughtful, creative, and delicious can you get?  From the doll's hair color and her pink, bell-shaped gown - right down to the turquoise stilettos that peak out from under her dress - Shirley's cake was one of the most heartfelt gifts that I have ever received.  And the wildest part of all?  The girl has never spent a minute in pastry/culinary school!

Until we eat again,
